Low back Pain/Sciatica

Capture.PNG

At some point we will all suffer from lower back pain. The sooner you address the pain the better off you’ll be. With early intervention, patients can be treated with fewer costly injections, painful surgeries, and dangerous opioids.

Back pain can limit your daily life and it can cause discomfort during your daily activities such as walking, shopping, sitting, etc. The only thing worse than having to stand is sitting too long. Our goal is to decrease your pain, improve your function, and teach you how to prevent back problems from recurring in the future.

Prevention varies, depending on the cause. The recommendation is to avoid prolonged sitting or lying with pressure on the buttocks. Increasing your strength on your back and abdominal muscle is important to avoid back pain.

At Functional Performance we can help you:

1. create an exercise plan to strengthen your core and improve mobility of the lower body

4. prevent future pain flareups and reduce fear associated with movement

5. restore pain-free functional movement patterns

6. relieve lower back, buttock, thigh, and leg pain

7. reduce muscle spasm

8. restore the function of the lumbar spine and the sacroiliac joint

Physical Therapy and Exercise Techniques for Treating Sciatica

A physical therapist may prescribe a combination of various types of physical, manual, soft tissue mobilization, and/or exercise therapies in treating sciatica. Specific exercises depend on the underlying cause of sciatica, 1 , 2 as well as other factors, such as the patient’s level of pain, overall conditioning, and the physical therapist’s training and experience.
